At Peake Management, one of our hugest assets is our incredible team of individuals who have worked with us for many years. Some of our employees have been with us for decades! Working together for so long has allowed them to build trusted relationships among themselves as well as with our clients and tenants. As Babe Ruth once said… “The way a team plays as a whole, determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime”.
We are proud of our team and what we accomplish together. Today, we are excited to bring you our first in a series we call “Employee Spotlight” where we will introduce you to one employee a month. We want you to know what we at Peake already know…these folks are GREAT!
Crystal grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia. She digs writing, reading, fishing and volunteering. Crystal jumped into action in the wake of Hurricane Harvey to get relief to single moms with young children that were in need of clothing, diapers, wipes, formula and other dire necessities. That’s just one example of her philanthropy. She has such a huge heart and we love her for it! Crystal is Mother to a beautiful 2 year old daughter.
At Peake, Crystal acts as the Leasing Manager although she has worn many hats over her seven years of employment with us and is always willing to help. She works diligently to ensure all application guidelines are met, fair housing laws are satisfied and new leases are signed.
Crystal came to us via reference from a former employee of ours in August 2010 and has been here ever since! She cites the “family dynamic” as one of the main reasons she has stayed with us so long. “It’s sometimes unbelievable the amount of support Lindsey [Peake] gives. And really the entire staff. The people I work with are wonderful”, she added.
Here is a brief question and answer that Crystal was good enough to participate in for us:
Nicole: What do you think is the most important thing for a tenant to consider when renting a property?
Crystal: Qualifying criteria and proper documentation.
Nicole: What do you think is the most important thing for a landlord to consider when renting a property?
Crystal: Trusting the management company to care for their home and place the proper tenant – just as they would. I think we do a great job of that here.
Nicole: What would you say is a main point of contention for landlords and tenants when it comes to applications?
Crystal: Qualifying criteria and the “perfect applicant”.
Nicole: And how could that be alleviated?
Crystal: I think we do a good job of sticking to the minimum guidelines for every applicant. Of course, there are always special circumstances, which we also provide due diligence, but it is my job to make sure the applicant is fully qualified before we present their application. To alleviate any contention, reassurance through follow up with both parties is mandatory.
Nicole: What is the most valuable lesson you have learned in your job?
Crystal: Do NOT sweat the small stuff! Working with the public, you truly gain the belief that as long as you’ve done your best to create a great working relationship and provide excellent customer service to Landlords and Tenants, then you’ve succeeded.
Nicole: What is the craziest thing you have seen in your job?
Crystal: I think I’ll skip this question! Ha!
Nicole: Has there been a time that you felt you made a difference in someone’s life (small or large) in your job?
Crystal: All the time! When someone is approved or a Landlord thanks you for your due diligence in helping rent their home. With my co-workers – anytime I can provide them a bit of relief from their own daily workload, it makes me happy.
Nicole: What does your company do to make you feel valued as an employee?
Crystal: Create and practice a level of trust, concern and continue that old school “open door policy”. I’ve learned from a past company I worked for that when you work for and with people who treat you good, doing your job is easy. That’s what I feel here, even on difficult days.
Finally, because music is the true window to the soul (and because…Nick Hornby), we bring you…
